There are over 250 athletes participating in events for Team Imerman Angels this year, from the Bank of America Chicago Marathon to the TCS New York City Marathon! Each member of our team is making a huge impact on the lives of cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers by spreading awareness and raising funds to support the Imerman Angels mission. We asked some of our team members a few questions so you can get to know Team Imerman Angels!

Team Imerman Angels Athlete Spotlight: Jeff French

How did you become involved with Team Imerman Angels?

It was the winter of 2017 when I did some deep thinking on how I could create more purpose in my day to day life.  I was already a marathon runner but had vaguely heard about how you could run for Imerman Angels to help cancer patients.  This was the perfect fit for me and my search so I signed up.  I have to admit I was a bit nervous about what this journey would bring while in the middle of many life changes.

Is this your first marathon? How many marathons have you run with Team Imerman Angels?

This will be my 11th marathon and 3rd for Imerman Angels.

What is your favorite part about being a member of Team Imerman Angels?

My favorite part about Imerman Angels is without question the community that is created.  Whether you are meeting new fellow runners, people impacted by cancer or just people who want to do good for others because it is these these bonds and new communities created that are making  everyone’s lives just a little brighter.

What motivates you on a long training run? What motivates you on race day?

The thing that motivates me during my training runs is persevering through the daily challenge, sacrifice and struggle it takes to make it all come together on race day.  On race day I am motivated and touched by all the people that have helped me in the journey to create more awareness for this incredible cause along with the people that have helped me in my preparation for race day. Finally, I am motivated by the friends and family in my life that have persevered through their own cancer battles.

What are your words of advice to anyone considering running a marathon?

For anyone considering a marathon you will never know what it’s all about until you give it a try.  Trust me when I say you won’t regret it.

What’s your favorite post-run treat?

My favorite post run treat is wearing that finishers medal and posting up at any pub with friends and family for some drinks, pizza  and sharing a few race day stories and laughs.
