A letter from Jonny Imerman Jonny Imerman
Jonny Imerman

I wish each of you well and hope your day rocks! I want to thank each of you for taking the time to SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT IMERMAN ANGELS and the importance of our mission!

Recently we refined our mission statement: To provide personalized connections that enable 1-on-1 support among cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers.

Imerman Angels' 5-year goal: Beginning January 1, 2013, every cancer fighter in the US will have free access to a cancer survivor within 24 hours of being diagnosed.

In everyday terms, the REAL goal is to create a world where NO ONE fights cancer alone! Let's get one cancer survivor matched to each person in the fight today - to inspire, motivate, shed light, and prove to them that it "has been done before by someone else" and they can do it!

Also recently, we have shifted roles in the Imerman Angels office: Rynell and Laura (both young adult cancer survivors of course!) are now spending almost all their time talking to cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers and making 100% of the 1-on-1 matches! While the staff creates these critical connections, I am traveling coast to coast - even internationally - to speak about Imerman Angels, attend cancer conferences, and build relationships with cancer partners to increase the number of referrals to our office! In summary, I need to find those in need and tell them where to go, and our staff is at home base ready for their calls and there to help!

With your help, our network has grown to more than 2,000 cancer survivors STRONG! We can only do this with your help and referrals - referrals from friends and supporters, hospitals, oncology nurses, social workers, doctors, and cancer partners! These referrals are key to our success! And I want to give a special shout to our volunteers who work so hard to spread the word and our mission! A big shout to our marathon runners as well - 120 runners ran the Chicago Marathon 2009 for IA!

Please encourage both cancer fighters, survivors and Caregivers to call us. We are here to help, telling anyone and everyone you can, send emails to friends about us to let them know we are here, and we will continue to provide much needed assistance! Please encourage both cancer fighters, survivors and caregivers to call us. We are here to help and make this cancer world a better place!

I wish each of you wellness, and happiness, and sincerely thank you!

Happy Holidays!

Our grassroots efforts to reach cancer fighters and survivors showed success this fall, as we were busier than ever pairing 1-on-1 support relationships. Featured in the Wall Street Journal, we were able to spread our message to an even broader audience that, we hope, will allow us to help even more people in the cancer community. Imerman Angels Testimonial
Kristin Prince & Sherrie Teuber
"Sherrie has been there for me when I have felt most alone.  Her support has meant so much to me, and my family. While in the hospital for my 2nd BMT earlier this year, she called me on her way to work numerous times during the week to check on me, see how my counts were and what the latest updates were. She has given me so much knowledge and endless support. We clicked instantly."
"It is so beneficial to connect with someone that I can help, but can also help me. Even though my family, and non-cancer buddies love me, until they have walked in my shoes, they will never know what cancer at a young age is like. Kristin can identify with everything I am feeling! I have felt like we have known each other for our whole lives!"

Imerman Active
Bank of America Marathon | October 12, 2009
Three cheers rang for the 120 runners from our Imerman Active group that participated in this year's Chicago Marathon. Runners powered up at Il Mulino with a pre-pasta dinner hosted by Lululemon, ran in the signature IA light blue jerseys and then celebrated at the IA post-race party donated by Bull and Bear. From the teammate who ran dressed as a banana, to the two cancer survivors who had trained for the event during recovery, it was a fun and inspirational event that reminded everyone that anything is possible! Thank you to all of our dedicated runners and this year’s marathon team sponsors: Equinox Fitness Clubs, Upstaging Inc, Czarnowski, Lifestyle Physical Therapy and Balance Center, KMG Private Wealth Management and Potash Bros Market.
Event Recap
Akira and Imerman Angels Fashion Show
August 30, 2009 Over 1800 fashionably invaded Galleria Marchetti to raise awareness for Imerman Angels at the 6th Annual Garden of Eden fashion show, themed The Tudor Rose. Along with Akira, Chicago’s fashion boutique empire, IA volunteers were in full force to pull together an evening to remember for IA supporters and fashionistas alike.
Guests experienced a night of Shakespearean performance, drama and fashion provided by Akira, Fabrice Calmels, principal dancer for the Joffrey Ballet, Hip Hop Violinist Lee England Jr., and the Shannon Rovers Bagpipe Clan.
This year’s event was emceed by Michelle Gielan, anchor of CBS News Up to the Minute & The CBS Morning News.
A fabulous silent auction with over 200 donated auction items raised important funds for our mission along with all net proceeds from the ticket sales. A big thanks to Akira, Upstaging, and all our sponsors and volunteers who made this event possible.
 4th Annual Holiday Happy Hour
December 3, 2009 Imerman Angels hosted its 4th annual Holiday Happy Hour on Dec. 3rd high above the city skyline on the 80th floor of the Aon Bldg at The Mid America Club. Over 1,200 people celebrated the holidays with us while enjoying food and drinks provided by Mid America Club, Wildfire, Diamond Vodka and Chicago Beverage. Our guests were entertained by a DJ and a special dance performance provided by Platinum Events and photo fun by Shutterbooth. We want to thank all our sponsors, volunteers and guests for their generosity and support in making this night a  huge success. A special thanks goes out to our inspirational speaker, Benji Salter, for sharing his incredible survivor story and how being a part of Imerman Angels has changed his life.
